Dr. Hiroaki Osada graduated from Tokyo University in 1967. He has been acting as a professor of Chest Surgery at St. Marianna University since 1992. In 2008 Dr. Osada retired from the University and received a degree of Professor Emeritus. Dr. Osada is extending his career as a consultant chest surgeon at Sho-nan Chu-oh Hospital at Fujisawa Japan where he continues his work in thoracic surgery.
Listed annually in Best Doctors in America since 1996, and recently in Orange Coast Magazine’s Best Doctors, Dr. Colt has authored over 120 peer-reviewed original research articles in addition to numerous book chapters, textbooks, and review papers. He has served as an associate editor for the Journal of Bronchology, section editor for the popular UpToDate in Pulmonary Medicine, and is on the editorial board or reviewer’s list for numerous medical journals, including Faculty 1000. Dr. Colt has served as President of the American Association for Bronchology and is a regent of the World Bronchology Association. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Lung Cancer Support and Education (ALCASE), and has the honor of serving as an official development consultant to the Tianjin Economic Development Area (TEDA) in Tianjin, China, and is Chairman of the World Bronchology Foundation. His work in education has resulted in his being the recipient of the San Jose de San Martin award from the South American Association for Bronchology, and he has been awarded honorary membership in several international bronchology or thoracic societies.
Professor Osada’s training included 3 years as a surgical intern/resident at the Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago and time as a clinical fellow in thoracic surgery at St. Francis Hospital in Long Island. He devoted an additional year of research as a Fellow of Dr. JD Cooper at the University of Toronto, back in the 1970s. Dr. Osada has had a great interest in ECMO research for ARDS, platelet preservation during extracorporeal circulation, and development of an artificial trachea, in addition to his work in the diagnosis, staging, and treatment of lung cancer. He has actively been performing diagnostic, therapeutic as well as interventional bronchoscopy for many years in addition to his service at chest surgery.
