BORN in Venice, 13th September 1957, Prof. Corbetta graduated at the University of Padua (Italy), School of Medicine (1982). His first position was that of Assistant in Respiratory Diseases at the main hospitals in Venice and Ferrara. He became Vice-director in 2000 of the Institute of Respiratory Diseases of Modena as well as Director of the Bronchoscopy Unit and of the Information Technology Section. Prof. Corbetta was recruited as Associate Professor by the University of Florence in 2005 where he works in the Respiratory Diseases Section as Director of the Interventional Pulmonary Unit of the University Hospital “Careggi” in Florence.

Prof. Corbetta has been an opinion leader in Italy in interventional bronchoscopy for many years. Much of his career has been devoted to the implementation of bronchoscopic laser resection and stenting and novel endoscopic technologies and also to the development of new teaching methods. He was elected President of the Interventional Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery Working Group of the Italian Society of Respiratory Medicine (SIMER, www.simernet.eu) in 2006 and currently holds this position. His work in education is aimed not only at specialists but also at students and fellows of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Florence and other Italian Universities. In fact, one of his main objectives is to raise awareness about the developments made regarding Interventional Pulmonology and other lung related conditions. In order to achieve his goals he has implemented multimedia and e-learning education resources some of which are available through the website www.pneumologia-interventistica.it. As a matter of fact, he is responsible for producing videos, webseminars, distance learning courses and videoanimations in flash format on bronchoscopy, spirometry, COPD and Asthma for patients and for physicians.

Prof. Corbetta is also Director of the Advanced Education Unit of the Tuscan Centre for CME and Director of the Italian initiative for the implementation of technology in Respiratory Diseases www.pneumotech.it. Although his major area of interest is in education, diagnosis, and treatment in the field of Interventional Pulmonology, he works in other educational fields and is the Italian delegate of the GOLD project for the dissemination of guidelines on COPD, sponsored by WHO and web-manager of the main Italian educational websites on asthma, COPD and allergic rhinitis: www.goldcopd.it, www.ginasma.it and www.progetto-aria.it.

He has been a speaker at national and international conferences and is the author of some 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 10 book chapters.
